Major Connor MacKinnon despises his commander, Lord William Wentworth, beyond all other men. Ordered to rescue Wentworth's niece after the Shawnee take her captive, he expects Lady Sarah Woodville to be every bit as contemptible as her uncle. Instead, he finds a brave and beautiful lass in desperate peril. But the only way to free Sarah is for Connor to defeat the Shawnee warrior who kidnapped her--and claim her himself. Torn by tragedy from her sheltered life in London, Lady Sarah is unprepared for the harshness of the frontier--or for the attraction she feels toward Connor. When they reach civilization, however, it is she who must protect him. For if her uncle knew all that Connor had done to save her, he would surely kill him. But the flames of passion, once kindled, are difficult to deny. As desire transforms into love, Connor will have to defy an empire to keep Sarah at his side.… (plus d'informations)

Connor MacKinnon must rescue the niece of his nemesis, captured by Indians during the French and Indian wars. Lady Sarah Woodville has to choose between marrying Connor in an Indian ceremony or becoming a slave to her captor. However, she must forget that marriage once she's back in civilization and hide it from her uncle, the British commander William Wentworth. Of course, things don't go the way they wish.
This is a beautiful conclusion to this series about a historical period not often utilized in historical romances. Ms. Clare has done her research and peppers the story with interesting facts and events. Connor and Sarah are a wonderful couple and fit in well with the rest of the MacKinnons. There are some steamy scenes, but I read for the story, wanting to see what happened next.
I highly recommend this series. It's very well-written and I enjoyed it extremely. ( )

Maybe a 4.5. It took me a little while to warm to this hero, his blood-brother Joseph, right there and available, had twice his wisdom and maturity! But the story kept my interest and I ended up liking Connor by the end. There was a loose thread that nagged at me, but it was addressed in the holiday novella following this one, so that ended up okay. It's a nice conclusion to the trilogy. ( )

Pamela Clare really knows her history. She based her story off of Roger's Rangers who really existed. She changed things around and made them the MacKinnon Rangers instead.

This was the final book in the series. I believe there is a Christmas novels too which I might read but I still wish she would have written a book dedicated to Joseph, the MacKinnon’s Mahican friend. I was madly in love with him.

This story was about the youngest brother, Connor. He's the only brother left serving in the Rangers. He is their new leader. When the Brigadier General’s niece gets abducted by a group of Shawnee, he sends Connor and Joseph after her to get her back.

Sarah was noble born. In fact, she is the king's great granddaughter. A scandal makes her parents send her from London to the Americas. On her way to Albany to visit her uncle, she and the people she is with get attacked. She is taken by a warrior named Katakwa who is bent on avenging the murder of his wife. He leads her by a rope through the forest. Sarah has no idea what will happen to her.

She goes through a horrible ordeal yet she handles it bravely. At first, I was a little annoyed with her placing such a high value on her virtue but given the era and how she was raised, I could understand it. I just thought if there's a choice between death or giving up my virtue, it would be a no brainer.

This story was emotional right up to the end.

I didn't want the series to end. ( )

Loved it! This didn't disappoint at all. Lots of good reviews out there so just some random thoughts from me. Loved both the hero and the heroine. The romance was good and well rounded. The historical aspect continues to be well done and beautifully woven throughout the story instead of being info dumpy. I continue to love the bad guy, Lord William Wentworth. He's pretty complex. It will be interesting to find out if we'll see more of him. He's in a pretty tight spot at the end of this book.

Can't wait for Joseph's book which I've heard rumors of. And I, myself, would love to see Wentworth have his own book where he is totally redeemed. ( )

Lots of layers, Sarah faces a lot of challenges and horrors which Connor helps rescue her from. Not to mention the obstacle of her Uncle William Wentworth.
