All roads lead home when that's where you've left your heart.

Compass Brothers, Book 1

Silas Compton always had his eye on Lucy, the veterinarian's daughter. He was even content to wait for the girl of his dreams to grow up before getting anywhere near her with his family's double-edged legacy.

Waiting around led to fooling around with his best friendand an impulsive eruption of desire that Lucy's innocent eyes weren't meant to see. Figuring Compton Pass wasn't big enough for either the three of them or the pain he'd caused, Silas let loose his tightly reined wanderlust and headed for Alaska.

Ten years later, when an oil rig accident sends him home, he braces himself for the reopening of old wounds. Instead he finds himself in the careand welcoming armsof Lucy and Colby, whose marriage has plenty of room for the man they both still love. And forgive with all their hearts.

As things start to unravel at Compass Ranch, Silas must dig deep for the strength to assume his rightful place in the Compton family...and lay the foundation for a future with his lovers. If he can forgive himself.

Warning: This book is overflowing with sexy cowboys who like to saddle up and ride each other as well as the woman of their dreams. The likelihood of becoming addicted to their ranch family is high. With three more stories yet to come, beware. You won't be able to read just one!

I needed something short to read as a break from another book I'm reading and picked this one up. I have to say it was quite good. It had more plot than I anticipated and it was a decent plot at that. The sex scenes were hot and varied and didn't feel excessive. Overall, a good read and an excellent set-up for the other books in the series. I definitely want to know more about the other Compass brothers.

Review:
Northern Exposure is the first book in Jayne Rylon’s The Compass Brother’s series. Now to start off I would just like to say, I could read about Cowboys all day long and when I picked up this book, I had doubts about it. I was very surprised.
Ms. Rylon has an ability to pull you into a story and make you feel as though you are actually there. Silas is a very believable character who has had his heart broken and is on a path of self-destruction. The change between before and after, (No, I’m not giving it away) was very dramatic yet at the same time the character didn’t lose any piece of “who” he “is.”
The support characters in this book are also very fun to follow and gave the support needed in order to pull Silas through his rough ordeal.
I thoroughly enjoyed following along on Silas’ story and look forward to meeting each and every one of the additional brothers in the next books. It is one I wouldn’t put down, unless of course, the heat generated by these sext scenes within, caused my house to start fire. ;)
4.5 out of 5 stars. ( )

This is the first book I have read by either of these authors. I met Mari Carr at RAW 2012 (Lora Leigh's Readers Appreciation Weekend). I liked her and wanted to find some of her books to read. Northern Exposure has been calling to me for some time, but I was afraid to buy it. I have been burned enough in the past to be cautious. I will mention upfront that there is M/M sex throughout this story so those of you that don't enjoy this type of action be forewarned. Now anyone that Has read my reviews knows I am not a big fan of M/M but when there is a woman involved it can be very hot. This story doesn't disappoint in that regard. Silas, Colby and Lucy burn up the pages when they finally get together and come to the understanding that they can make the triad work. I do wish that the story had been longer I would have liked to see more interaction between the main characters and the rest of the cast. I am glad that I waited until the last book in the series was released so I won't have to wait for the next books. Patience isn't one of my strong points. LOL This is a definite recommend and it is a quick read.

This is the first book in the Compass Brothers series. The story is set on a ranch in Wyoming and it involves four brothers. The oldest is having a crisis of faith and runs away. Hoping by leaving he is giving the two people he loves most in the world a chance at happiness. Ten years later it takes almost losing his life for Silas Compton to realize that he should never have left Wyoming as well as Colby and Lucy. Silas is given a second chance to have the life he has longed for the entire time he has been gone. However things are about to take a turn for the worst and these three are going to need each other to get through what is coming.

I guess we all do stupid things when we are young. Silas has done just that by running away from Colby and Lucy. I like that he is willing to admit his mistake and take steps to fix things. It is hard to live in a small town and be different. There is always going to be someone looking for trouble and you will be the target. I am glad that these three are determined to do what is best for them and to heck with the rest of the world. While there were times I would have liked to "Gibbs" smack Silas I liked him overall.

Colby has survived the abuse his father heap on him and has become a confident and strong young man. He has become foreman of the Compton Ranch and has married Lucy. He is happy for the most part however he misses Silas. Colby has never been attracted to another man and he loves his wife to distraction but there was always something special about Silas. When Silas is almost killed Colby makes up his mind to do whatever it takes to make Silas see that the three of them are meant to be together.

Lucy was shocked when she came upon Silas and Colby making out in the barn. She was afraid that neither of them would ever love her like they loved each other. She runs off and Silas sees her and thinks that she is repulsed by what she has seen and so the big misunderstanding starts. Lucy is all grown up now and remembering Silas and Colby together makes her hot. She is also determined to do whatever it takes to make a relationship between the three of them work.

This is a very quick read and it set the ground work for the future books. Tragedy is about to strike the Compton Ranch and no one is prepared for what it to come. I will warn all those reading that this does have male/male sex scenes throughout the story. This is also a menage story so be prepared. One thing I would have liked to see more fully developed is the Domination and submission that is hinted at after Silas, Colby and Lucy get together. I liked this book and I look forward to starting the next in the series. ( )
