This is a great book for children who are bilingual and children who don't know any Spanish. This book is about a parrot who is misunderstood in the pet shop, because he does not speak English, and no one can understand him. This book has wonderful artwork. This book also has a lot of detail on each page, such as the quotation bubbles. The book has a good lesson for students, and is a fun read. The book also has funny parts, for example, the bird speaks Spanish so he said Si, but the customer thought he said sea, so he brought him the ocean and the bird didn't have the best experience. The detail with the art work is also very fun for children to look at. For example on page 9, if you look in the background of the picture, you see two animals making funny faces. This book is great for students to expand their knowledge about different language. In the back of the book their is definitions for all the words in Spanish. ( )

I had mixed feelings about this book. I liked how it taught spanish words in a creative way. It was cute and funny how people misunderstood the poor parrot because he was speaking spanish every time someone asked him to say a sentence in English. When he said "agua," they thought the said opera. Although, I did not like how repetitive the story became. A different person came in the store each day and asked the bird to say something. He was misunderstood each time and the store owner told him that he needed to learn to say the phrases if he wanted to find a home. The message of this book is to teach basic Spanish words to children in a fun and creative way. ( )

Genre: Fantasy

Review: This book is fantasy because the bird in this story talks. Even though it is a parrot and parrots do talk, the parrot thinks to himself in words and complete sentences, therefore making it fantasy. Even though the parrot is the main character of the story, it's a great story about persistence and being who you truly are and not changing for anyone.

Character: Perico the parrot is the main character of this story. I am saying that he is a round dynamic character. Round because we know about his life in the pet store and know that he really wants to find a home and at the beginning will do anything to find a home. He is dynamic because he does change from trying to be what everyone else wants him to be, to who he really is and then finds an owner who keeps him for who he is.

Media: Brush painting ( )
