I got the book through the Member Giveaway. The general idea for the book is interesting. The world where zombies live next to 'healthy' people and the need for 'zombie hunters' was, at least for me, innovative. But the idea and the actual execution were here two very different things... Unfortunately, putting lots of 'fucking' into dialogues does not make them sound more natural and the descriptions of emotions sound more artificial than I thought possible. And don't get me started about the characters themselves... Cette critique a été rédigée pour LibraryThing Member Giveaways. I am not much of a zombie literature fan but Cristian YoungMiller in this book gave me a lot to think about and maybe not turn me into a advocate of zombie literature but into and advocate of SAMURAI ZOMBIE HUNTER. To me the book was a fascinating read and a study of a person's evolution in thoughts and actions.Van is the average American male who considers himself to be quiet the ladies' man and is growing bored with his life. Then a message in a restroom gets him to thinking and to questioning his past conquests. This leads him to feeling inadequate and looking for a way to strike out so that the feeling of inadequacy will disappear. A college friend shows up with the idea to kill zombies who are starting to creep into all aspects of American life. They are infected and it may take a few years for them to turn into the classic zombie figures that we are accustomed to. They appear normal until they need to feed and do so at night. The business that Van's college buddy sets up begins to boom as more and more people want more zombies killed. But as the same time Van, who appears to enjoy the killing, begins to ask questions of himself. It is a story of "Them Against Us" and how hatred and misunderstanding can lead to irrational thoughts and deeds. As the differences between normal people and zombies become politicized the move toward open warfare between the two groups becomes inevitable and Van questions his own role in this process. It is hard to tell in this world who are zombies and who are not. Also there is the possibility that the infection can be controlled and the need for zombies to feed curtailed to the point that they are not dangerous to others in the society. The book is one that is difficult to put down once one starts reading. There are surprises throughout the book. Van eventually realizes that the biggest battle he is fighting is one within himself. It is a glimpse of how we learn to hate a group that we do not understand and what may occur when that hate is allowed to run unchecked simply because of misunderstanding. Hopefully it will be read not for the zombie killing but for the insights it gives into our society and culture. Very good read. Cette critique a été rédigée pour LibraryThing Member Giveaways. I couldn't put this one down! The main characters are Van and Kofi, who have been friends since college. The story starts out with Van reflecting upon his uninspiring love life, which leaves him feeling pretty lonely and rejected. Kofi unexpectedly visits Van in the middle of the night to get him to help him kill a zombie, since Van's got mad samurai skills. Van agrees, but reluctantly because it's the middle of the night and he pretty much scared the crap out of him by just appearing in his room out of nowhere with his samurai sword. Van hasn't seen his friend Kofi in awhile and could use the company so they go and kill a zombie. Kofi decides to start a business with Van as Samurai Zombie Hunters. They get more and more jobs along the way from random citizens that have problems with their zombie neighbors. We experience some of the different jobs that they go on, which were thrillingly described. In this story, zombies aren't so different from humans in their first few years after turning (besides the brain eating-which they seem to do discreetly), so deep down, after a few jobs, this seems to effect Van. Plus, there's a sort of twist at the end that I loved! This book may not be for everybody as there is some cussing & slightly vulgar sexual references, but if you don't mind it, this book is pretty awesome! I highly recommend it! Cette critique a été rédigée pour LibraryThing Member Giveaways. Van is unhappy in his job, famously bad in bed, and still hanging out with his college frat buddies. He spends his free time watching samurai movies and practicing sword technique in his underwear. For lack of anything better to do, his friend Kofi convinces him to become partners in a zombie extermination service. The zombies in YoungMiller’s world are not your typical detiorated monsters. They hold jobs, have girlfriends, and are hanging out in your favorite bar just waiting for you to buy them a drink. They seem perfectly normal. Perfectly normal, that is, until the cravings for brains become too strong and they revert to the monster that they have become. Samurai Zombie Hunter is a fun zombie tale. It’s not a deep or intellectually stimulating story, but what should you expect from a title like that? Don’t read zombie books if you are easily offended. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
The extinction of humanity approaches... Out of the jungles of South American stumbled an infected priest. 10 years later the zombie infection has seeped out of the shadows and gutters and has spread across the globe. Governments crumble as they decide who should live and who must die.Out of this pre-apocalyptic world emerges Donavan Leeds, an ordinary man who dreams of becoming a Samurai. Paralyzed by loneliness after he is mysteriously abandoned by everyone he loves, Van wakes one warm night to find a figure holding a sword at the foot of his bed. Obligated by a profound debt, Van hires out his samurai sword and a river of zombie blood follows. To a desperate world, Van becomes a folk hero; to the secretly infected, he is 'the beginning of a war'. As humanity's darkest forces gather on one side and the incurably diseased gather on the other, civilization is on the brink of its bloodiest war. And Van, blinded by love and a secret that could change the course of mankind, must decide who to kill to prevent the zombie apocalypse. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
