Devon James is a young army lieutenant eager to move beyond a troubled childhood with a promising military career. A model soldier, Devon embodies the character and leadership of a great officer, until she falls in love with a woman. Suddenly the truth of her heart jeopardizes everything shes worked for in the dark days before Dont Ask, Dont Tell. Faithful Service, Silent Hearts is the story of Devons journey from green boot camp recruit to intelligence officer in the war-torn Middle East during the early days of anti-American terrorism. As Devon endures unfathomable dangers and loss, can she reconcile her professional duty with personal integrity? Is love the biggest risk of all? Devon survives the hellish nightmare in the desert and returns home to discover the battle for her honor and faithful service has just begun. "Gosh, what an intense read ...Friendships, heroism, well-drawn characters, Faithful Service, Silent Hearts has it all." -Lee Lynch, award-winning author of The Raid, Beggar of Love, The Swashbuckler, and other groundbreaking novels. "Lynette Mae is one of the brash and gifted new writers strutting into the world of Lesfic. Shes talented and skillful with the insight and ability to tell a story we dont recognize. ...Sexy, steamy, edgy, heart pounding fiction that feels fresh and new, and far removed from the mundane." -Salem West, The Rainbow Reader Blog… (plus d'informations)

I really liked this book. I don't think it's for everyone but, for me, the military experiences, particularly boot camp and CID investigations, really rang true. The bombings in Beirut were a few years before I joined the Marines and also before I became of the world outside of my city and I found that part of the story very interesting.

While I LOVED that this was not a typical romance, I think folks who are looking for "happily ever after" may be upset or, at the very least, unhappy with the way the book unfolds in regard to the romance aspects.

There were a few typos in this edition and couple of things toward the end of the book that I groaned over because I thought they went too far (I've typed this sentence out at least 5 times and can't use the best words because it could lead to spoilerism) but, in the grand scheme of things, I thoroughly enjoyed FSSH and will be reading the sequel, Tactical Pursuit, as soon as my schedule allows.

I also want to disclose that the author is a friend of mine. ( )
