Amongst the popular genre of paranormal romance author's need to be creative and offer an original myth to pique the readers interest. Miller has created an alternate society where Therians (shifters) and vampires battle under a the unseeing gaze of the mundanes. In Crimson Bay, war is brewing as the promise of a prophecy draws near.
Slade, a Therian assassin, has been tasked to infiltrate a local khiss and await orders. His boss has a plan to rid Crimson Bay of the vampires once and for all. Slade shifts into vampire form and is welcomes into the khiss as a newborn by Dylan. His immediate and passionate attraction to her is confusing for him, as are his sudden cravings and increase in strength and speed. While determined to complete his mission, spending time with Dylan breaks down the stereotypes he has always held of vampires and he finds himself torn between duty and destiny.
Dylan cares little for the politics of war, but as the owner of ReVamp, a support system for new and troubled vampires, she is concerned that her race is buckling under increased pressure from the Therians particularly as the blood supply meant to satisfy the community is somehow tainted. The khiss has given Dylan just three days to solve the riddle of the contamination or face being shut down. Desperate to save ReVamp, Dylan accepts Slade's help to solve the mystery despite her reservations and her attraction to the unusual newborn vampire.
Intervamption blends action with emotion and is supported by a solid plot. While the star crossed romance between Slade and Dylan is the focus of the story, Miller doesn't neglect the elements that create an interesting story. She grounds her characters firmly in an imaginative society with strong world building that reveals an interesting lore, and political and social system. This may give this new series an edge over others in the genre who rely almost solely on the romance to carry the story.
Intervamption veers to the darker side of the genre where I had expected something lighter from the book description but I enjoyed the well paced, tension filled storyline and will most likely pick up the second installment. ( )

Slade is a therian and has been called into service by his master,or Sheik,when there is news of a vampire uprising. His Sheik,Moses,promises to restore him to Assassin status if he helps. Moses wants Slade to shift into a vampire,which is nearly impossible to do,and Slade is to infiltrate a khiss of vampires,and take down a high ranking mark.

Dylan owns ReVamp,which helps vampires blend in with humans and control their urges,as well as offering a safe haven. For centuries,the Court has been trying to find out what has been tainting their blood supply,and weakening the wills of vampires across the area. Bloodlusting street crimes were climbing,in spite of the efforts of ReVamp. ReVamp’s blood banks have been open for more than 50 years,but lately they’ve been noticing problems among their patrons,and it’s Dylan’s job to find out what’s going on. The possibility of bloodthirsty vamps hitting the streets and causing mass panic is becoming very real,as well as vamps being rounded up,tortured,and executed by the therians.

Dylan gets a visit from a vampire that is set to be enlightened,which is the vampires equivalent of marriage. He is in love with another,however,and makes Dylan promise to protect his lover if he should die. He then proceeds to walk out the door,into the sun. She turns to her bodyguard,Ruan,for help in tracking down Eve,the dead vamp’s lover,so that she can deliver his final message. Unfortunately,Dylan’s got other issues on her hands. She’s late to help induct a newborn vampire into a khiss,and little does she know,this “newborn” is none other than Slade,the undercover therian sent to infiltrate the vamps. There’s an instant connection,and in spite of her age,and centuries of self control,Dylan is unable to find the undeniable heat between them. When Slade realizes that Dylan is a vampire,sparks fly,and not in a good way. The rejection hurts Dylan more than it should,and she resolves to get back to business immediately. Easier said than done,though!

Slade is very alpha male,and I really liked that about him. He finds himself feeling very protective of Dylan,regardless of the fact that she’s a vamp. Slade’s feelings about vamps in general are also undergoing a bit of a transformation. Being in their midst makes him realize that they might all not be the vicious animals that he’s always thought them to be. Needless to say,for a therian and Assassin,this isn’t a good thing,since it challenges everything that Slade has been made to believe. Dylan is a strong,smart woman,and more than able to hold her own alongside Slade. However,she’s fighting a battle between what her heart desires,and what her khiss,and her life’s work is demanding of her. A war between the vampires and the therians is brewing,but secrets will come out that will threaten all that Dylan and Slade have been taught about their races. The action is fierce,the vamps are hot,and you won’t want to miss this unique debut! ( )

Genre: Paranormal Romance--adult

First Sentences: "Slade didn't think twice about slamming the blonde against his closed apartment door. She gasped as her head snapped back, hitting the wood with a resounding thud." WOW! Talk about an opening! Loads of tension and it definitely grabs you from the start.

Brownie Points: One of my favorite things about Intervamption is the attention to detail when it comes to world building. The supernatural world Kristin Miller creates is both believable and imaginative at the same time. From the descriptions of prophesies and ancient Valcdana ceremonies to Dylan's blood blast bars, I was hooked on the unique world Kristin portrayed.

Beefs: I don't even know if this could be considered a "beef" lol, probably not. Intervamption is extremely plot driven. It's well-paced, filled with tension and unexpected twists. My usual preference is more character driven novels. Nevertheless, Intervamption took a writing technique I'm normally not a fan of, and made me love it. That's an accomplishment!

Ending: Thoroughly enjoyed it. I won't say too much, because I don't want to give anything away. But let's just say, I'll definitely looking forward to reading the upcoming books in the series.

Recommendation and General Comments: Intervamption is a fantastic read! Paranormal romance lovers will not be able to put it down. You will fall in love with the Intervamption world and the sizzling romance between heroine vampire, Dylan, and the sexy therian hero, Slade. It's a story of star crossed lovers at it's most badass. For this reason, I give Kristin Miller's Intervamption a rating of full moon!

This is the mother of all ratings! I highly recommend this book! If you're a fan of paranormal romance, then you should go pick this up as soon as you can. This is no run of the mill vampire romance--this book is one of the most unique spins on vampire lore I've seen yet, and I do love my vampire novels, so that's saying something. I guarantee you'll love it.

Would I aspire to write like this author?

Absolutely. Intervamption is well-written, well-paced, intriguing, full of tension, unique and sexy as hell. The better question is: why wouldn't I aspire to write like this? ( )
