It's a little too focused on essay/article for my purposes, especially in terms of structuring pieces so traditionally. I also would have liked a more helpful organization and use of headings in the book because it's hard to find what you need. But the formula of "it's a story about x as illustrated by y" is really good, as are her revision and editing suggestions. ( ) "Memoir Project" makes it sound more interesting than I found it to be, but that's probably because I read a lot of Writing magazines in my twenties and collected composition textbooks well into my thirties. For the most part, Smith's advice is nothing new, even though she effectively slants it to the personal essay, blog, or memoir. This book could be useful to the young writer but at my age, writing just for my own personal sanity, I am looking for things that spark my creativity and fire my memory more so than writing tips illustrated by someone else's essays. Fabulous, down to earth, realistic approach, witty insights - I thoroughly enjoyed this and really appreciated her approach to this (at times) daunting project I am engaged in. Far exceeded my expectations. Many thanks. I know, my critique here could be edited down a bit, but so it goes - I'm still learning aucune critique | ajouter une critique
