This book introduces young readers to Harriet Tubman and her role in the Underground Railroad as well as the history of slavery in the United States. Included are images depicting likely incidents or moments which took place during this time. Other significant historical figures who played key roles in slave revolts are introduced as well, and a brief timeline highlighting important moments is included at the end. The book can be completed in one sitting or during a normal class period and should prompt further questions or reading if the student/child is so inclined. Can be effective in jump-starting a group study about Tubman or the Underground Railroad in general. ( )

This story depicts the life of Harriet Tubman as a slave as well as a freed woman. She helped many slaves cross into freedom despite the many risks. The book is very informative in terms of her life and the risks she took as a woman. ( )

Harriet Tubman was a very brave and strong African American woman. She helped and led the underground rail road system that allowed slaves to escape and not be caught. This book takes place during the civil war and focuses on slavery. This would be a great book to use in a lesson in civil rights or possibly for black history month. Even though it is a tad bit lengthy, the story is told in a great way that keeps the reader engaged. ( )

This book tells the life story of Harriet Tubman but in a way that made it seem like a big adventure. this would be a good book to share with children as it touches on issues that would be good to discuss in class and also shows the strength and perseverance of one women. ( )
