This is my favorite book in this trilogy. The story is interesting, the ghosts are scary, and the protagonists growing skills with ghosts means that even though this is the end of the series I in no way think its the end of their ghost adventures. ( )

The last (as far as I can see) Nina Tanleven book - kudos to the author for not making this an eternal series, it easily could be. Very complicated ghosts this time - the little girl in the brass bed, and the man outside. Ancient scandal and sorrow, current bad straits, town history cropping up in odd places, and some really scary paintings. The villain is again completely cold - no human feeling at all (the ghost is emotionally richer!). And some clever (by the author) phrases, misunderstood to complicate the story still more. A happy ending, though I wish the scene had stayed - it would have made the Lost Masterpiece complete, as intended. It is YA, it's simple language and a quick read - but there's a lot of depth in these simple books. ( )
