Let me put it this way - this is the third book in a trilogy published by Shady Tree Press; who, to date, have published nothing else. The book has been reviewed on Amazon.com by two people; who, to date, have reviewed nothing else. And the only reviews I can find anywhere else are from people who won this book in a giveaway. All three books were published in 2010, and Shady Tree Press is now closed for submissions. If this isn't self-published, I will eat my own head. That said, I genuinely wish the author well and hope that their work finds an appreciative audience. I won't bad-mouth a book that I couldn't finish reading, but it just wasn't my cup of tea: Historical fiction; at heart a love story. I couldn't put it down fast enough. I just wish that we could find out more about some of the characters and what happened to them! Cette critique a été rédigée pour LibraryThing Member Giveaways. Free book received in exchange for a review. This book is the finale to a trilogy. I've not read the first two, but found it easy to jump in. The book is historical fiction about Nazi Germany, with a bit of romance thrown in. The author did a good job of portraying events and keeping me interested in the story. There were some historical innacuracies, but the book was enjoyable nonetheless. Cette critique a été rédigée pour LibraryThing Member Giveaways. I loved this book. I did not read the first two books, but wanted to get this one read on my summer break so I didn't wait to get the other two. It is not necessary to read the first two books, but I am sure I would have gotten more attached to the characters. I enjoyed the story of a family in Berlin during WWII and how it changed their lives. I hope there is a 4th book because I did feel like what happened to one of the characters left me hanging wondering what became of her. Last Train From Berlin: by Irene Magers:A story of Dorrit von Renz, a Russian widow of Jewish background living through the onset of the Nazism from 1938 until the final collapse of the country and government. With this background, she must be very careful and avoid close scrutiny as Hitler's government rapidly gains total power. And at the end we' ve experienced both the family's fate and the struggles of the city as Berlin is captured by the Allies. It's unusual to find a book that deals so totally with the wartime struggle of ordinary people and their final survival or death. The story has short chapters which mirror the onset of changes and the peoples' affliction. It is well done, a book that i could not leave until I'd finished it. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Appartient à la sérievon Renz trilogy (3)
Last Train From Berlin is a thrilling journey stretching south to Yugoslavia and north to Denmark, bringing a surprising and haunting conclusion to the von Renz dynasty. With this last installment in a trilogy, we see ancestral ties and age-old traditions pitted against a ruthless regime at war. Her husband at the front, Lisbet von Renz tries to survive in Berlin during devastating bomb attacks. Death and starvation are daily realities, escape from the city is a pipe dream. Finally with nowhere to turn, she takes shelter with Dorrit who is hiding in plain sight from the Nazis. Salvation comes from unexpected quarters. But the price is high. Someone must risk everything.
