This was equal parts frustrating and nerve wracking, as I vacillated greatly from being enraged, indignant, and melting into goo.

So yes, this had classic Jory and Sam overtones. However, overlay it with a confounding culture steeped in legends, barbaric rules, and mad power plays, and you get one crazy story. Are you surprised?? Surely not.

Here, Jin comes into his own in more ways than one. He goes from annoyingly insecure to seriously strong, as his love for Logan is tested over and over, bringing about a change in him that no one could predict. The consequences of such make these two a formidable pair - which of course, in this wackadoodle werepanther world, can only mean one thing.

Trouble.

And though I'm a lot apprehensive, I've got to say, this is still one enticing carrot dangling in my face.

This surpassed its predecessor even way better than I was expecting it to! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I've gotten so accustomed to the idea of Reah's and semel's and werepanthers because the idea is so awesome. Would love to see a story with Domin and Koren, these two are so hot. That and I know that their story would be so great to read and give me another sneak peek into Jin and the packs like. ( )

Well, I finished reading it, so can say definitively that I could have skipped the last two chapters and lost nothing that mattered to me.

There are three things wrong with this novel. The first is formatting: dialog is jumbled, incorrectly paragraphed, and it never improves. Shame on the idiots who formatted it, they failed miserably. Were I the author, I'd regain control of it specifically to pay someone to fix the poor thing. I am grateful I could check it out from my library in kindle format, rather than spending money on it. Yeah, that bad.

The second wrong thing is the excessive data-dumps. Plus, there is disrespectfully-frequent repetition of facts, like how special Jin is. Any observant reader would feel insulted. There's also a lot more of the panther rules, which I never enjoy. Not my favorite worldbuilding.

And then, speaking of worldbuilding; so, Jin is like a legal expert in panther rules, right? And yet, he is stupid about it several times. Now, part of that is PTSD. Okay. But some of it is just plot nonsense, and I am rarely here for that.

I'll add that by the end, the sex was boringly repetitive. And then, the ending was weak.

At this point, I am done with this world and these characters, even though I could check the rest out from my library. The promise in the first book was not delivered well enough in the second, so I don't trust the author to have course-corrected, nor do I trust that the publisher did any better with the subsequent books. I'm out. ( )

I'm still not really into Logan-- in fact, this book sold me completely on Crane and Jin as a couple. They have such a sweet friendship. I don't care for Logan at all. I was also intrigued by Domin and Koren. I'm not interested in another book about Logan and Jin but I might check out Domin and Koren's book. ( )
