This book is from the 90s and you can tell. However, it does have Grout's trademark wit and once you get past the Tony Robbins worship there's some great breathing exercises to try. I did find though that I was pushing too hard to make them work and what I really need are exercises that connect to natural breathing, which is referenced in the bibliography. There were two that interested me that are now out of print, but God bless the internet - I was able to find pdf copies of both and they are next on my list. I really appreciated the first part of the book, the reminder to really think about how I deep breathe. I was just expecting a little more. ( )

This is an easy to read & follow book. It was written by the same author who wrote "E Squared", but I like this much better, as I believe it is written in a better tone and contains information more suited to my needs & interest.

The premise of the book is that how we breathe effects our metabolism, which in turn effects our weight.... I can get behind this thought. It explains that most of us breathe a shallow breath from out chest, not a deep breath for the bottom of our lungs & diaphragm.

The book cover states: "How to lose weight by changing the way you breathe; Burn calories more efficiently; Increase your energy; & Reduce stress & anxiety"

I know that deep breathing is a technique used in yoga & other meditations.... I did not know (but would have, had I given it any prior thought) that deep breathing removes residual stale air from the lungs, thus decreasing the fetid air which might cause illness. It also refreshes the oxygen in the cells of the body, which in turn become more active fat burners.

So when I remember, I change my breathing (as I tend to hold my breath and go still)... If I remember I'll let you know in a few months the results..... But I'm pretty sure I have already begun to slow down & relax a bit. ( )
