It's not exactly easy living in a shrine to your dead sister. Since birth, I've known that everyone loved Shannon. She was perfectâ??beautiful, smart, talented. And me? Not so much. My parents always expected me to live up to her greatness. But I could never measure up to her, so why even try? This summer, I've started reading the journal Shannon kept just before she died... and suddenly nothing is what I thought it was. The more secrets I learn about Shannon and our family, the more everything changes. And as it turns out, facing the truth is no cakewalk, either. Praise: "Deriso illuminates a complex family that, despite the faults of every member, emerges as strong and loving. An absorbing story teens will connect with." â??KIRKUS RE… (plus d'informations)

Knocking off another book of my tbr pile, I loved this book!

1. Mystery. When you meet someone for the first time, you get to know them. But, what if you never got a chance. How do you do that? I love that Summer began to know who her sister really was by seeking out answers. Getting into the mystery is super easy and lots of fun. I kept wanting to read the journal, find old friends, ask questions.

2. Characters. The characters are great and well rounded. I love getting into Summer’s shoes. Her voice is loud and very clear. As if I can hear it in my head. There were moments were I totally lost myself in the book and hadn’t even realize it. Even the minor characters helped Summer shaped who she was and what she is learning.

3. Love. Despite all the craziness of learning about Shannon’s sister, Summer herself found love. I like that there is no insta-love but a clear friendship growing into more.

4. Parents. This is another story were family is a very important dynamic in both Shannon’s and Summer’s life. Families are not perfect and this family had their fair share of drama. Still, this family made it through.

5. Contentment. Even after everything that Summer uncovered, after learning so much about her sister, she decided she knows what she wanted to know. I really love how well Summer learn to be comfortable in her own shoes. Always under the shadow of her sister, Summer finally stepped out of that, creating her own path.

This is an extremely well written, great book. A wonderful original story, it achieves an awesome reader experience. A provocative tale of mystery and a secret journal, …Then I Met My Sister is insightful. ( )

Summer is a girl in her junior year of high school and since she was young her parents would always talk about her sister Shannon. They made a hall of fame in her memory with all her certificates, medals and all her pictures. She was on the top in her studies and she was involved in every club. Shannon died on the first day of her senior year. Devastated of her death, Shannon's parents decided to have another child, Summer. Summer was the imperfect, careless and slacker type of girl. She was nothing compared to her sister .Summer received her sister's dairy from her aunt. Her goal this summer is to find out how her sister was really like. Was she happy the way that she was? Did she want to end her life? Was she tired of being perfect? All these questions led to Summer and her class fellow Gabe on a journey that no one in her family had ever attempted to go on. My favorite quote from the book was "Here's the thing about Gibs' eyes: they look like shimmery ponds at midnight that I could skinny-dip in without getting cold or wet. I'd just float in the silky warmth." My favorite part from the book was when Shannon's friend Eve discloses everything to Summer. Some parts were rough and other parts were smooth. This is a wonderful book to read in your free time. ( )
