In a celebration of Appalachian oral tradition, this compilation of sixteen interviews shines new light on how the region's storytellers choose to propagate their work and keep their stories alive. Of particular interest are the interviews with Marilou Awiakta and Jerry Wolfe and other Cherokee Appalachians who form a bridge between traditional Native American tales and the tales of the southern mountains of Appalachia. A unique aspect of these interviews is that the interviewer is removed from the final transcript and the dialect of the storytellers is not altered, giving a fluid, natural style--like reading a story. Or better yet, like having a story read to you. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique

To be from Appalachia--to be at home there and to love it passionately--informs the narratives of each of the sixteen storytellers featured in this work. Their stories are rich in the lore of the past, deeply influenced by family, especially their grandparents, and the ancient mountains they saw every day of their lives as they were growing up.
