Description :
Studentersamfundet -- or Samfundet for short -- is located in a large, red building on Elgeseter street right next to Elgeseter bridge. Samfundet as seen today was constructed in 1929, and is a landmark in Trondheim because of both its striking appearance, as well as its longstanding position as one of the most prolific student societies in the country. Around one thousand three hundred students work on a voluntary basis to keep the building fuming with activity.
All volunteers are part of groups with designated responsibilities. Samfundet has its own TV channel, radio channel, and student magazine; it houses several choirs, bands, and a symphony orchestra; there is one group that specifically takes care of public relations, and several groups work hard every day to book artists, musicians and writers to various events. Another two groups consist of waiters and bartenders who offer guests of the house whatever they might desire to eat or drink in the student-run restaurant, café, pub, or various bars. Yet other groups manage the computer systems the organization, or work as carpenters and electricians. And that is far from all.
