I really enjoyed revisiting this first book in the start of a new series by Morgan Brice.
John Solo is a good narrator who breathes new life into the characters and story.
The series and characters might be new but they are connected to the overall universe of magic and paranormal that the author has created.
Erik is friends with Simon Kincade (from Badlands) and has similar touch magic skills to Simon's cousin. Ben it turns out knows someone that knows Travis (who appears in both the Badlands series and the Witchbane series).
The style of the stories are similar as you would expect but this time the focus is on art and antiques as befitting Erik's past and woo-woo skills.
The romance is believable (even the fact that things happen so quickly) and the mystery is solid. ( )

Good introductory story that could use some tightening up so as avoid page skimming. I liked the feel of Cape May and having been there as a teen made it feel more real. I'm a sucker for the paranormal and mystery so when combined I find them irresistible. I'd recommend this book. ( )

This is the third series I have read by Morgan Brice. Love her characters and how she brings each new part of the series together to create a first-rate story. Not surprising that she is off to a great start of doing the same thing with this series as she did with Witchbane and Badlands...give us well written, well thought out plots and wonderful, lovable, warm characters that we will hate to say goodbye to at the end of the series. Erik Mitchell decides to settle down after an exciting career as an art fraud investigator and buy an antique store in Cape May, New Jersey. His attraction is to undercover cop Ben Nolan. Together they navigate a new relationship while dodging enemies from both their pasts as well as a few ghosts. The “ghost story junkie” loved every word of this as well as the growing romance between the two guys. ( )

This was more like a 4.5 star read. I really, really enjoyed this story. Ben and Erik both came to Cape May to start a new life after leaving behind stressful jobs, bullets, and horrible relationships. They are immediately drawn to each other, and I loved how connected they were. They fell in love pretty quickly, but I thought that was explained very well. There were a lot of paranormal elements throughout this book, and it was so interesting. The story kept me engaged, and I loved the mystery aspect of it. By the last few pages, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen in upcoming books, because this screams for more in a series. I loved it, and definitely want to read more about these characters and what troubles they might find themselves in later.

I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC provided by LesCourt Author Services ( )

Treasure Trail by Morgan Brice
1st book in the Treasure Trail series. Paranormal M-M romantic mystery. Cross-over with other series (Badlands and Witchbane) by the author and links under Gail Z Martin. You don’t need to read those series to enjoy this book.
An antique shop, a box of items from an auction, an old clock, and a bit of psychic ability stir up potential danger for shop owner Erik Mitchell in Cape May, NJ. Erik and his new boyfriend Ben find themselves involved with cold case files because of their similar former law enforcement backgrounds and strange events around the local old hotel.

An intriguing paranormal ability and an instant love connection make this read steamy and captivating. ( )
