This was actually one of the books that I was required to purchase for a PE class in college, but it actually made me really want to see how far I could run without dying! It allows you to track several things on a daily basis, such as your route, distance, time, etc. This would be a great addition for anyone who is passionate about running or hoping to complete a 5k in the near future.

First published in 1974, this book is a classic. We know a lot more about running now than we did then, but back in the early 1970s, when the running boom for the average Jane and Joe really got going, Runner's World magazine was a bible for runners.

I borrowed this book from the library. After I read it, I liked it so much I purchased a copy. The book is short-- only 96 pages. However, it contains a lot of information for beginning and intermediate runners trying to get to the next level. It includes information on determining your own heart rate, appropriate amount of water to drink based on gender, weight, and difficulty of workout, foods that contribute to optimal performance, stretching exercises, and beginning and intermediate training programs for 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and marathon. It also has a handy index.… (plus d'informations)

Per the editors, this book provides runners with "everything they need to know". I don't think so. But it is a good albeit short (94 pages crowded with photos) introduction to running. Good advice on getting started, schedules, stretching, cross training, etc. but these topics are each covered in literally a few sentences.
