This book is advertised quite openly as Conservative Christian fantasy, and while you don't have to be a Christian to enjoy it, you need at least a healthy respect for the Bible and a mind open to conservative ideas. With that in mind, Asulon is a good story, with memorable characters and layers upon layers of both plot and meaning. Early on in the book, the author promises to do to martial arts and bladed instruments what Larry Correia did to heavy weaponry. Alas, this being an EPIC fantasy, exposition battles with action for space and attention, and unfortunately exposition wins. Without reading the rest of the series, I don't know if this is the pattern for this writer, or if, having gotten the backstory out of the way, he will unleash his obvious talent for writing action. I would recommend this book for readers who want a good fantasy without excessive world-building, but at the same time have enough patience to get through the slower parts. On the whole, the characters and the underlying story make Asulon a world worth discovering.… (plus d'informations)
