This is an efficient anthology, and a better book than one should suspect from a publishing house assembling a quicky history to entertainment parameters. The contributors are knowledgeable in their various topics, there is a good map of Jutland, and the photographs and line drawings are plentiful and often valuable. The chapter on the war in the Adriatic is a rare gem!

A bound collection of magazine articles, I suspect from some manner of partwork magazine, this book is mostly made up of short pieces by aviation buffs and excerpts from the memoirs of famous aces. Lavishly illustrated with colour plates and black and white photography, it'll give a very general grounding in air combat of the Great War. Its virtues lie in that it was cheap and it is entertaining. The essay by the French ace, Fonck, in particular showing that even a hundred years after the passing of Napoleon, the spirit of Marbot "the beautiful fool" lives on.… (plus d'informations)
