James C. Dobson was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 21, 1936. He received an undergraduate degree from Pasadena College and a Ph.D. in child development from the University of Southern California. He was an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Southern California afficher plus School of Medicine and on the attending staff of Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. He was founder and president of Focus on the Family, an organization that produces nationally broadcast radio programs on domestic issues, but is no longer affiliated with the organization because of significant philosophical differences with the new leadership. He is founder and president of Family Talk, a nonprofit organization that produces his radio program, Dr. James Dobson's Family Talk. He is the author of more than 30 books dedicated to the preservation of the family including The New Dare to Discipline, Love for a Lifetime, When God Doesn't Make Sense, Life on the Edge, Love Must Be Tough, The New Strong-Willed Child, Marriage Under Fire, and Head Over Heels. A discussion of the values parents should impart in their children in place of the false concepts of society. Dr Dobson asserts that only Christian values free us from the tyranny of "self" and offer dignity and respect to every human being on earth.

Dr. Dobson had some good points to make about the necessity for leadership by parents, but I do not like the idea of enforcing it with a switch. I also did not like the way he put down other practitioners in his field, calling them "naive," "foolish," "outrageous," etc.
I knew going in that Dr. Dobson was a Christian, but I didn't expect so many Bible quotes, nor his statements that systems other than the Judeo-Christian one are Wrong.
That said, he does have some good suggestions about dealing with teenagers and with hyperactive children that I found useful. For people who share his beliefs, this is probably a very helpful book; for me only slightly so, unfortunately.… (plus d'informations)
