It took me a long time to get into this book, but the more I read it, the more invested I became. I like the concept of the "power of one" to overcome great obstacles, but there were so many events in the book that broke my heart. Peekay lost so much... Yes, he overcame...but it was hard for me to deal with the pain. Still, I'm glad I read the book.

This continues the story of the Potato Factory, now concentrating on Tommo and Hawk, Mary Abacus' adoptive children. it's still very good storytelling, but I found it a bit less engaging than the first book. Tommo's tendency towards alcohol and drug addictions, while realistic and understandable given his past, can get frustrating to read about, and their adventures with the Maoris strained my suspension of disbelief. Still, a very good read overall.

I enjoyed this last book in the trilogy more than the previous one. After telling the story of Ikey Solomon and Mary Abacus in book 1, and of Tommo and Hawk in book 2, now it's the turn for the third generation. This is a family history but it's also very intertwined with the history of Australia. Courtenay, as always, is a great storyteller, but he's also rather merciless with the characters and the readers. The last part of the novel is a very intense look into the horrors and butchery of war (WWI in this case).… (plus d'informations)

The ending of Peekay's story, and the story of Tandia. Still excellent storytelling, although I liked Peekay's parts more than Tandia's. All in all, another great book by this author, though.
