Cardeno C.

I think this is going to be my snarkiest review ever.

I want to preface this first with the fact that I overall liked this book. When I think about it, it has everything I could want in a shifter romance. It's got angsty desire and doubt, uncontrollable mate urges and bonding, and over the top love sprinkled with some fluff and very hot claiming sex.

But....the main character Vy was ridiculous. He had some valid concerns and complaints and there were several times my heart went out to him. However that really didn't negate his tendency to go drama queen. We get it, you're the freakin kuar!!! Sheesh. It's a wonder his dad ceded power to him at the ripe age of 28 cuz I felt he had the biggest chip on his shoulder and plenty of growing up to do.

The redeeming gem of this story is Robert. He is absolutely one of the best gentle giants ever. A freakin saint is what he was because every crazy quirk and tantrum Vy threw only further endeared him to Robert. Thank fuck for mate connections and pheromones right?? (Sorry - scuse my language). Vy could do no wrong in Robert's eyes. He literally found his vitriol cute!!

So the overall theme of this is control. The need to be in it, to have it, to exert this over every aspect of one's life. This was a constant struggle for both MC's. Of course they ultimately learn from each other when that very control is warranted and when it's ok to let go. Cardeno and Calmes are go-to authors for fluff and there were many, many parts that I enjoyed (please see first paragraph) - just be forewarned of eye roll inducing moments of cray cray.

Se amate lo zucchero, gli arcobaleni e le caramelle gommose, i libri di Cardeno C. fanno al caso vostro; io non rientro granché nella categoria, ma siccome ogni regola ha la sua eccezione, in piccole dosi trovo l’ottimismo luminoso di C. veramente salutare.

Questa volta, però, non è andata benissimo: ho trovato abbastanza fastidioso Ben, dal punto di vista del quale è narrata la storia. Troppo fissato con i doppi sensi, soprattutto, che invece di farmi ridere, mi sono sembrati piazzati lì a forza per far scorrere una storia altrimenti davvero poco interessante. Inoltre, mi li ho sentiti molto lontani dal personaggio – insomma, Zach può infilare una collana di doppi sensi, ma Ben proprio no.

E, a proposito di Zach, questo è il classico libro dove le coppie secondarie – cioè quelle che si sono formate negli altri libri della serie – sono molto più interessanti della coppia protagonista. Alla fine il rapporto tra i due fratelli Noah e Ben è decisamente più interessante di quello tra Ben e Micah.

Il finale poi – anche con temi importanti – è stato proprio buttato lì perché abbiamo passato troppe pagine nella testa di Ben e non ne poteva più nessuno, autore compreso. Una mezza delusione.… (plus d'informations)

Stando a Goodreads, Ritorno a casa era l'ultimo libro che mi rimaneva da leggere tra quelli inseriti tra i to-read nel 2012. Visto che era lì solo soletto, mi sembrava giusto salvarlo dalla sua solitudine.

Conoscendo la follia romantica che possiede Cardeno C., sapevo che prima o poi, nel corso del romanzo, mi sarei imbattuta in qualche scena improbabile (eufemismo). Sapendo poi che uno dei protagonisti aveva una misteriosa amnesia, indovinate un po' dove mi sono schizzati via gli occhi dalle orbite?

Il punto, però, è che neanche questa volta sono riuscita ad avercela con lui per questo: Cardeno C. riesce a trasmettermi solo positività e non c'è momento grondante miele o situazione assurda che superi il mio livello di fastidio. È una sorta di terapia antistress concentrata in poco più di cento pagine.… (plus d'informations)
