Malicious Intent (Defend and Protect # 2) By Lynn H. Blackburn Jan 2022 LTER à Reviews of Early Reviewers Books (Janvier 2022)

Critiques

Another fantastic book in the Defend and Protect series! Although you don’t have to read this series in order, I think you understand the characters best if you do. I was very excited to read about Ivy and Gil, and I thought their developing romance in this story was well-written. I’m amazed at how well the author flushes out her characters in a novel that is fast-paced. The whole group of characters is so fun! And of course, the action is great! Nonstop from page one with several twists that kept me guessing. I was on the edge of my seat several times. Another amazing romantic suspense novel, and it made me eager for book three! Highly recommended!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

3.5 Stars

Never Fall Again is the first book in a new series from Lynn H. Blackburn. Having read her previous series, I thought I knew what to expect in her latest release. I did not.

This book is three quarters romance with one quarter (if that) suspense. It’s like the characters remember every once in a while that there’s something sinister happening. Much of this book was spend introducing Cal’s family (which I’m guessing is setting up coming books in the series).

Now, as a fan of romance, I am not complaining about Cal and Landry’s developing feelings for each other. They are natural and don’t happen too fast as both of our main characters are fighting against more than friendship. And I am also a fan of big tough heroes who fall for the children of their love interest as much as the woman—and Cal does both.

But I found myself hoping for more of that suspense that I’ve gotten in previous books from Blackburn. I would have liked a few more hints as to who the person was behind everything happening before the big reveal (which is near the end of the book).

All that said, I will be keeping an eye out to see which of the Cal’s family is in cupid’s crosshairs next (I’m rooting for Mo or Meredith!).

Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. All opinions are my own.

Landry Hutton and her daughter have been living a quiet unassuming life in Gossamer Falls. Landry is an artist in residence at an exclusive resort and she will finally have enough money to build a house of their own. The contractor she chooses to build her house turns out to be a wonderful human as well as contractor. He takes Landry and her 5 year old daughter under his wing and has soon introduced her to his entire extended family. Landry ran from a troubled past and has no family to speak of so she is incredibly grateful. When a fire at the resort takes out most of her pottery inventory - she begins to wonder if it's an accident or if its personal. Good thing her contractor. neighbor/ former marine has her best interests at heart. Speaking of hearts - could what they've both been running from bring them together? Inspirational romance that isn't too preachy. I can't wait to read the rest in the series!… (plus d'informations)

This is my first novel by Lynn H. Blackburn, and I am hooked! Never Fall Again was a fantastic romantic suspense. The characters in this book are so well-developed and written, that you’ll feel like you’re a part of one of the big, overbearing-yet-charming families of Gossamer Falls before you finish the first two chapters. The suspense is realistic and palpable, making me turn pages past my bedtime. Plus the slow-burn romance between Cal and Landry is worth waiting for!
Overall, as a fan of romantic suspense, I’d highly recommend Never Fall Again. It is everything I’ve come to love in the romantic suspense genre! I’m so glad to have found Lynn H. Blackburn, and look forward to her storytelling in the next book in the series. (Can I hope it’s Mo’s story, please!?!)

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.
