If you do not like football, let alone descriptions of Russian footbal, premier liga(Dynamo Moscow), 3rd class division, national or any other related, or descriptions of travel to the stadiums and back home whether in Russia or any where else, or the disgust or happiness when his team loses or wins, this book is not for you.

3.5 stars: I would have given 4 stars if the main character hadn't spent so much time in New York.

Horizontal Position surprised me: I never thought I could enjoy a book with so many brief sentences about riding on buses, planes, and trains. And going to sleep. The line "Horizontal position, sleep" gets a lot of use. Danilov's novel, written as a diary, offers up details, many bland, in the life of a corporate writer who travels quite a bit. I found it oddly fun and winning, despite (or because of?) Danilov's use of repetition and specifics.

(There's more on my blog, here.)
(I read the online/journal edition of the book.)

Aardige novelle.
