I really like how this book explained America’s process of becoming a country in short rhythmic verses. The information provided was condensed and easy to follow for younger readers. After reading this book and child will have a knowledge of the fight between the colonies and Great Britain in Lexington and Concord , the fact that Thomas Jefferson was the one who wrote the Declaration of Independence . Readers even get to read the beginning of the Declaration of Independence and then the meaning is put into simpler terms . Very good book to read for the Fourth of July. ( )

1776 was a very important/eventful year in American history. The American colonies were at war with Great Britain, struggling for their independence. I really enjoyed how in the beginning of the book there was a page that talked about helping children understand the American Revolution. This book was very easy to read and had a lively rhyming text that made it fun to read. The colonists were not happy having to take orders from their King thousands of miles away when they had no say, which ultimately started the war. Finally, when enough was enough, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence which stated everyone has the right to life, liberty, and happiness. On July 4, 1776, The Declaration was approved and the U.S.A was born! When the Americans won the war, they decided to vote for their own president since they were no longer ruled by the King. George Washington was the first president of the United States and a very important part of history. This is an excellent book for children to get a good understanding of where our freedom comes from and what it took for use to get where we are today. The illustrations were detailed and brought the book to life. I would definitely recommend this book to a second through fourth grade social studies class. ( )
