The editors had the good fortune to solicit the philosopher''s opinion regarding the selection, which contributes greatly to the quality of the essays. Not surprisingly because he was involved in so many fields of study, Russell admitted freely that he did not recognize some of the things that he had written at an early age, as he had grown in thought and switched his position on some minor matters. However generally noted, the views expressed in the essay collection were imperative to this ground-breaking thinker, and stand firmly as positive contributions to the perennial issues concerning humanity today. With the eighty plus writing pieces, ranging from marriage to metaphysics, one can read straight through or in parts without too much difficulty. Russell was a master at wielding his pen to accommodate multiple audiences, either technical academics or average citizens. Although the logic essays can be tough-going, the social commentaries are witty and eloquent. Still in print, this compendium is a valuable item in anyone's private library. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
