Grief-stricken, he threw himself off a cliff, only to awaken horribly injured and emotionally hollow, a color-blind Painter who would never again wield the magical power of the color pots. Now a navigator for the pirate Timbertoe, who fished his broken body from the water, Aengus wreaks a savage revenge upon the Wolfhounds who destroyed his people and his life. When cornered by his enemies one night, he is forced to plead for sanctuary at the home of a reclusive sorceress. There he meets Rose, a mysterious green-eyed beauty who has long walked his dreams. Received a copy of this book through Early Reviewers. An awesome book. The book is well written and with amazing descriptive details about the places and the people. You can read this book as a stand alone, without reading the first one, but I really think you should read the first one to get more of a back story. Can't wait to read more from this series! ( )

I loved this entire series. I made sure to buy the first book before reading this one and bought the rest of the series soon after. The story is well paced, engaging and unique. The whole premise feels like a breath of fresh air compared to other fantasy stories. Overall, I very much enjoyed this book. ( )

**DISCLAIMER** I did not read the first in the series before reading this. If I had, it might have alleviated some of the grievances.

A good read for a vacation or any other time when you are looking for something to read to pass the time. While the author did a great job illustrating the setting, it seemed to be lacking in character motivation and contextual development. Granted, I did not read the prequel but even so I have read a lot of trilogies or series works that illustrated the importance of an event even if the reader did not read the previous books. Not having explained some of these contextual points in this book made it difficult to understand the reasons of character actions and decisions and importance of fairly essential elements such as religion and racial relations. All in all a decent read, although it ended somewhat abruptly. ( )

This is the continuation of the Boy From the Burren.

At the end of the last book, Aengus is now homeless since his home and everyone on it was killed. He was hart when he fell from the cliff. He had brain damage and could no longer see colors so now he cannot paint. The second book is mostly about how he goes about going after the men that killed everyone on the island--his revenge.

The book is well written and vivid in descriptions of the area and of the people. The book can be read without reading the first one but I will say it's a big help if you did read the one before. I can't wait to read the last in the series to see what happens to the painter, Aengus. ( )

Excellent book, a writing that compels the reader not to stop until he sees what's coming in the next chapter.

The 'Scottish' feeling has been very skillfully rendered, and I felt really there upon reading the colourful descriptions.

Very good indeed. ( )
