Got about half way through, I think, it was on audio. Some stories were funny, others, not so much. Then Hoopla returned it kindly for me, as I hadn't been listening in the amount of time given for borrowing the title. May have been a sign to let this one go. ( ![]() A bunch nice short stories about the holidays ... fun to see Raleigh as part of the short stories too ... I was expecting to really like this and the collection was off to a decent start with the SantaLand Diaries, but sadly that was the peak of the book. Maybe times have changed since the 90s. SantaLand Diaries - 3 Season's Greetings to our Friends and Family!!! - Could not finish. 0 or 1 Dinah, the Christmas Whore - 2 Front Row Center with Thaddeus Bristol - 2 Based Upon a True Story - 1 Christmas Means Giving - 2 So, averaged together that's mathematically 2 stars but only because of SantaLand, and the internet has plenty of "customers suck" stories along similar lines. "Holidays on Ice" is not to be missed if you like tongue-in-cheek holiday humor. David Sedaris had me laughing all the way. David Sedaris is an absolutely hysterical writer and this book does not disappoint. His stories are always quirky but yet truthful and make me laugh out loud. The only thing better than reading a story he has written is listening to the audio version of it b.c there is just something about his slightly annoying voice that makes the stories sing.
I love David Sedaris as he is one of my favorite authors but this is not one of his best books. You should still read "Holidays on Ice" because it is funny and will make you smile. Holidays are crazy for everyone, no matter what holidays you celebrate and Sedaris reminds us to laugh at them, especially ourselves. FOR THOSE DREADING THE HOLIDAY SEASON, BESTSELLER SEDARIS (WHEN YOU ARE ENGULFED IN FLAMES) MAKES LIFE A LITTLE EASIER WITH THIS RE-RELEASE OF HIS UPROARIOUS ESSAY COLLECTION, NEWLY EXPANDED FROM THE ORIGINAL 1997 EDITION. Here are six Christmas tales sure to please readers new to humorist, playwright and NPR commentator Sedaris--and likely to disappoint his devotees. Est contenu dansEst en version abrégée dans
A best-selling classic features six additional works on the joys and embarrassments of favorite holidays, in a volume that includes tales of tardy trick-or-treaters, the difficulties of explaining the Easter Bunny to another culture, and a barnyard Secret Santa scheme gone awry.
