I found myself bing sucked into the life of Judith and feeling her fear. I was reading this at night and became afraid what might come out. Definitely recommend this to anyone who like ghost stories. ( ) Walking past one of the many book cases in the house, I grabbed this to read on a snowy day. I have a habit of collecting YA and books. Before adding more, I'm randomly reading some I have accumulated and then sending them along to the library. A lonely young orphaned girl is taken in by an Uncle who lives in a large house with his housekeeper and near-do-well son. The son Charles is a creepy letch. The housekeeper is loving and kind, as well as the Uncle. Learning that a previous young woman who lived in the house committed suicide, the orphaned girl soon discovers the house is haunted. The images were crisp. The writing was good. The story was not up to par for this writer. The redeeming value is that another book is read from the TBR list and now will go to the library sale table. This was a spooky and creepy Southern gothic novel with a down-to-earth practical protagonist who I identified with readily. The whole thing had the feel of a ghost story that you hear at slumber parties. The ghostly setting was well-crafted and the pacing of the suspense was masterful, but I just felt like the story could have been fleshed out a little more. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
