I especially want to make Tilt and Bounce but also love St. Marks and Boston Common and so many more. I was intrigued by the way Fassett plays with colour and contrast much differently than most quilters do and by the effects of using similar colours rather than contrasting ones. For me this book opens up new realms of possibility. I love that so many of the quilts are scrappy, too--most quilt books nowadays seem to have gotten so far away from the origins of quilting as to require the reader to buy huge bundles of coordinating fabrics. I know Fassett's style isn't for everybody, but I loved this book and really look forward to putting these ideas to use. ( ) I bought this book because the author will be teaching one of the quilts, Tilt, at the AQS quilt show in Chicago in April, 2010. I am registered for the class. With 192 pages, it is jam packed with eye candy just like all of his previous books. Kaffe demonstrates how geometric shapes such as squares, triangles, circles, rectangles, diamonds and quarter-circles that are found in natural and manmade environments inspire his quilt making. There are about 100 photos of them in the book. 23 quilt patterns are given with Tilt being the easiest. The other quilt patterns range from easy to difficult. Templates are included at the back of the book. If you are a fan of Kaffe, you will need to get this book. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
In Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts, world-renowned quilter Kaffe Fassett demonstrates how basic geometric forms--squares, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, circles, and quarter-circles--found in natural and manmade environments inspire his quilt designs. Twenty-three of his magnificent, inventive quilts--ranging from the relatively simple Tilt, ideal for beginners, to the more complex Circle of Stars, for more advanced stitchers--are showcased in the book, along with step-by-step instructions for making each one. Along the way, Fassett also offers over a hundred photos of geometric inspiration from around the world--everything from triangular watermelon slices, to rectangular sheets of metal on African scrap dwellings, to lollipop-shaped topiary trees in Japan. In the accompanying text, Fassett reveals how he experiences the colors and basic shapes around him, how we can train our own eyes to see this rewarding source of creativity, and how we can, just as he does, combine striking fabrics with simple shapes to create our own spectacular quilt designs. Also available from Kaffe Fassett: Kaffe Fassett's Bold Blooms, Kaffe Fassett: Dreaming in Color, and Kaffe Fassett Quilts Shots and Stripes. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
