Jason is a likeable character, Sylvia leaves me wanting to see more of her abilities, Verne is the quintessential vampire. He finds reasonable solutions to the problems you would have if you were dealing with supernaturals in the real world. Have to track down more of his work.... A collection of stories about a hacker and information specialist who does a job for a man who turns out to be much older than he looks and who doesn't appear on photographs. After a while he finds the truth and becomes a friend and both of their lives change a lot. Some of the stories are very interesting and I enjoyed them but after a while it began to stretch my quite flexible belief system. I saw potential in the story for the author in the future and would like to read more by this author. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Fair warning: about halfway through the book, Ryk turns your understanding of the book's world completely upside down. Took me several reads to get past the "What the fuck just happened here?!" moment. The hints and build up for what he springs on you are all there, but if you don't see them and realize they're import, the book seriously blindsides you. For some people, that makes it even better, for others it's a "throw the book across the room" moment.
(I originally read this as a ebook bought on the Baen website. It has been re-released in an updated and expanded version as Paradigm's Lost) ( )
