If you are looking for a book that contextualizes Heidegger in the wider intellectual setting ( Sitz im Leben ) in which he operated, this is an excellent place to start. It focuses on his influences and what he was trying to accomplish. However, if you are looking for a book that introduces you to Heidegger's thinking for the first time, it is a very poor place to start. For that I would recommend Heidegger (The Routledge Philosophers) ( http://www.librarything.com/work/12426919/book/96599963 ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
With characteristic lucidity and style, Steiner makes Heidegger's immensely difficult body of work accessible to the general reader. In a new introduction, Steiner addresses language and philosophy and the rise of Nazism. "It would be hard to imagine a better introduction to the work of philosopher Martin Heidegger."--George Kateb, The New Republic Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

It was a true pleasure to remember the things I learned while I was at university in a clear and concise text.
Towards the end of the book George Steiner saves a couple of paragraphs to present his own subjective interpretation of what he thinks Heidegger's work means, which I found extremely interesting. ( )
