Good story - I like the Gear's books becuase they have an archeology background that is woven into the fictional stories. Sometimes the books seem to be a little repetative, similar story lines. But they are a fun read. This new series is a little different and I like that. Will be reading the next one in the quartet soon. ( )

I feel a little bad giving this a low rating. The authors seem like nice people who want to share their passion and knowledge through their fiction (they even thank the reader for being interested at the back), but this story was not gripping, at all. It's very simplistic, very linear, with little in the way of any kind of development or plot or characters. The prose is very bland and simple as well. It was an easy read as far as mental faculties required, but it was a slog all the same. ( )

While I enjoyed it as historical fiction I couldn't find myself willing to commit to finishing this series. Maybe I need to try an older book by the Gears. ( )

Disaster of a book. Complete nonsense from the first page. The other, 'People of' books are awesome. This one was a complete disappointment. ( )

Around 600 years ago in what are the northeastern United States and a piece of Canada, five Iroquois tribes were locked in a horrible war of survival. Odion and his little sister, Tutelo, always feared that one-day their village would be attacked. That day comes and Odion and his sister are marched away as slaves, with their only hope is that their parents will rescue them.
Their mother is the famous and fierce War Chief Koracoo, and their father, Deputy Gonda start out to rescue them thinking they are tracking an ordinary war party herding captive children to an enemy village. Odion and Tutelo have fallen into the hands of Gannajero the Trader. People know her as the Crow; she is a nightmare, a supposed witch who captures children for her own evil purposes centering on wealth. Odion and the other captive children try hard to survive their horrible captivity. In People of the Longhouse, authors W. Michael Gear and Kathleen O'Neal Gear continue their wonderful look into a part of America’s past. ( )

To Tim, Maria, Brandon and Connor O'Neal,
For the sacrifices you made while caring for our mother in her last difficult years. No one could have been kinder, or taken better care of her. WE know it wasn't easy.
You'll always have a special place in our hearts.
