It is always very frightening for me whenever I think about how Poland and Germany had hundreds of thousands or even millions of Jews before World War II, and that in the decades after World War II, the numbers were only a miniscule fraction of what they were previously. We all know why this is the case. But people should wonder, what happens when the people start to go back and repopulate the area(s) that they used to live in? Read this book and your question will be answered.
It was painful and disheartening to read that some of the difficulties for the Jews returning to Berlin were similar to the ordeals of 70 or 80 years ago. But their courage is inspiring.
I would love to go to Berlin and visit and see some of this history in the making. I am always fascinated by reading about the lost world of Berlin in the late 19th Century, or both during and after World War I. The era after World War II is even more foreign to me, because I have read virtually nothing about it. Besides the present volume, I also have a collection of stories by Heinrich Boll, which I would like to read as soon as possible. I would like to see if there are any other reviews of this book available, as well as seeing if the author has written any other related books.
