A very nice book about investing for the average person. Worth reading twice. In fact I re-read it in 2022, and it is as relevant as ever so I now have it in paperback. One for the kids when they are older. ( )

You can read my full review at Quieted Waters.
The Investor’s Manifesto is written for a specific reader — a person desirous of learning more about investing in the stock market — so my recommendation is only to persons who fit that description. But in today’s society, where nearly all retirement accounts are self-managed, it behooves all of us to know at least the basics of investing. If you want to learn more, start here.

This book starts off a little slow but keep with it and their is some good information to learn and use. I would say that this book centers on common sense and some hard truths. If you are looking for a book that is going to teach and show you how to get rich, this is not it. But someone who is looking to get rich is just the type of person who should read this as it will keep them from becoming poor. For someone who does not have suspicion's or already knows how it is, this book will tell you how it really is. ( )

The principles are not greatly different from those espoused in The Four Pillars. Bernstein is a committed indexer and profoundly dubious about high-cost solutions like actively managed mutual funds, wrap accounts or hedge funds. In fact, his attitude to the financial services industry is downright hostile: he suggests more than once that retail investors won't go too far wrong by considering any stock broker, financial advisor or insurance salesperson a "hardened criminal." That's with respect to evaluating whether their interests are more aligned with their own retirements or that of their clients.
