This selection of essays by Plutarch presents a challenging read due to the depth of the topics covered and by the late 1800s translation. Most are, however, worth the effort. This is especially true of the last essay/chapter- "How One May Be Aware of One's Progress in Virtue", which contains somewhat of an overview of many of the other essays, and also seems more easily related to the modern condition. This last essay could fairly easily be adapted to a modern Christian context, with instruction on discerning what is important and ways for one to gage one's own progress in virtue and growth of character.
