This book starts each page with words like "Endearment", "Supportive", "selflessness" and "admire' to name a few. after the key word it tells the reader or listener what the word means to them in context to the images presented upon the pages. Making cookies, sharing cookies, and unconditional love are the major themes of kindness in the book. Beautifully illustrated. ( ) This book uses a number of diverse people and anthropomorphic animals to discuss different types of love (familial, friendly, and even a touch of romantic). Endearing words are explained through the metaphors of baking and sharing cookies. For instance, one page reads "CHERISH means that there is nowhere in the universe I'd rather be than here in our kitchen, baking sugar cookies with you." The book ends with a recipe for sugar cookies. This book is a sweet (no pun intended) twist on talking to children about loving relationships. The defining thing that made this book different from the the last book about cookies was the fact that I could see the story. There was more of a progression instead of generically stating things about cookies. All of the words also felt like they fit better together than the previous book. I would definitely prefer this one over the other. This sweet book is a great vocabulary book! I was pleasantly surprised to see words like endearment, considerate, adore, and constructive in a kids book. It not only uses the words but expands on their meanings as well. It even puts the words in context with making cookies. This is a great way for a child to expand his/her vocabulary. For a fact, I have never read a kid's book with words like unrequited and requited! I didn't really know what these words meant until I read the definitions in the book. Unrequited means, "He sure loves her cookies, but I don't think she feels the same way about his cookies." Requited means, "Look, they both love each others cookies!". This is a sweet book to cherish and learn. I could use this book in the classroom to explain words that are hard to understand with textbook definitions. Amy Rosenthal takes words that are either known or not known and explains them in accordance to baking cookies. The words tenderness is used to describe a way of taking cookies off a cookie sheet, gently and carefully. The illustrations are a perfect depiction of the story and the message Amy wants to get across. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
