This was the one book that I looked forward to getting my hands on because it is a special education based book. The book showed children with Down's Syndrome, showing that they could do things that every person could do. I liked the word usage it had because it was designed for lower elementary school children. The bigger picture of this book was to start at a young age in introducing the world of special education and that people who may have a disability can still do anything they put their minds to. I had mixed feelings about this book after reading it. I liked this book because it relates to special needs and the language was straightforward to read. I liked the use of photographs of children playing rather than drawings. This helped capture the real emotion that the children were displaying. I didn’t like that there weren’t any main characters that would have allowed the reader to develop a connection with. Instead, there was a different child on every page playing and smiling. The main idea of this book is to show that children with disabilities can do many of the same activities that other children can. I had mixed feelings after reading this book. The language was very simple and easy to read. It was very repetitive as well- which I did not like as much. For example, every page of the book started with the words "I can.." and ended with "can you?" There were no specific characters named in this story. Each page had a picture of a different child with down syndrome. Since there were no characters there was really no plot to the story. Each page had a different activity on it that the kid is able to do. For example, "I can play with blocks. Can you?" or "I can smile. Can you?" The story could of had more words in it with more explanation rather than using five or six words per page. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
