you would need to know the worlds to really get this story of Magneto and his revenge on humanity after his two children are killed. Not too bad but I really don't have enough read in this world to really get someof the references. ( )

In a chaotically epic windup to the whole "Ultimate" group of Marvel storylines, we find that Magneto has engineered the destruction of the Earth by shifting the magnetic poles. The world's various heroes (at least, the surviving ones; many have died along with millions of the world's inhabitants) track him down, and carnage ensues. Later, we find that Dr. Doom has duped Magneto into unleashing his vengeance on the world, with Doom picking up the pieces. This, too, has a price. I have mixed feelings about long-term storylines like the "Ultimate" Marvel stories, and Spider-Man's "Brand New Day" storyline, going "off the grid". It allows the writers to stretch themselves, being more free to majorly change characters and kill off others. On the other hand, the idea that this storyline is not "real", and has no connection with the Marvel universe we've come to think of as real, tends to water down the impact. Never mind the philosophical heebie-jeebies I get from thinking about which storylines are more "real" than others. ( )

This book would primarily appeal to readers who enjoy intense, shocking violence in graphic novels. The plot is fairly uneventful and unexciting, but the art is full of one graphic scene after another, such as cannibalism, decapitations, and dismemberment. ( )
