This was ridiculously bad. Unlikable and underdeveloped characters all around, with no kind of payoff at the end for suffering through the bad behavior. Ugh.
I wanted a quick and easy read and it fit that bill, thus the one star, but really? I would give it a zero. ( )

Possible spoiler.

Why I gave this book four stars--it was well written. The main character, Josie, was fun and smart and different until she got snagged by one of the Beautiful People. The last quarter of this story left me uncomfortable and annoyed. It also had a ring of truth to it. If you have never been a participant in a one way love or had a friend who was, I'd say that you are lucky because Vail has caught it right. It makes people behave badly and unlike themselves. While I personally felt annoyed by the extreme of Josie's reactions, i can certainly see the possibility. I've seen both genders react badly to a break up. And while I would have preferred that Josie hadn't lost herself, I think that vail showed an honest portrayal. ( )

I try to give every story a fair chance. I hate to be mean and give a book a bad review, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. After saying this I must confess that I HATED this book. I know high school teens are hormonal and change their minds every day, but I left my teens about three years ago and still live with two teens; 15 and 17 and this book was just off. It was almost as if the main character suffered from mood swings or had a really bad case of month long PMS. She had what I would call a psychotic break with stalker tendencies. None of the other characters were any better. My favorite was her mom who didn’t want anything to do with her, but change her. I completely understand the feeling. I normally try to find something redeemable about a book, but I couldn’t find one in You, Maybe. If you want to read a short book about a dysfunctional teen, with swiftly changing, nonsensical emotions that defy logic, be my guest. I have seen some good reviews about this authors other books, and I’ll give them a try. A horrible book does not a horrible author make. I give this a 1 ½ STAR rating. ( )

Josie is a 15 year old girl who doesn’t idolize the hottest senior on campus, Carson Gold. While every other girl her age is smitten with him, her friends included, she doesn’t see the appeal and is embarrassed when other girls throw fits after being dumped by him. She believes that in high school, people should hook up and move on. Of course, as young adult novels go, Carson and Josie start hooking up, it’s great for a while, and then things end.
Carson Gold knew all the right things to say to get Josie infatuated with him. Not being fifteen, I think I could definitely see where that was going to lead, but I think at Josie’s age, I think I would have been just as naïve as she was. It sort of breaks my heart how she treated Michael, not even realizing that he loved her, but I can’t blame her for it. However, the points he makes to her about her hypocrisy (becoming part of a couple when she insisted that people should be wholly themselves) are valid!
I think all teenagers eventually have a Carson Gold in their life, a guy who makes you fall for him and disengages when things get too serious. Someone who promises love and doesn’t deliver. I thought the novel described that relationship very truthfully. It was honest in its representation of a teenage girl who changes herself for a guy and then finds out he doesn’t love her. Even though Josie ends up turning into the girl she hates, I think by the end she is better for having the relationship with Carson…lessons learned and all. All in all, a decent read, especially for young girls. ( )
