(2010) Pretty good 2nd in series as Jane tries to find 2 missing children of a friend, who is a witch. Story continues in New Orleans from first book as Jane is contracted to kill rogue vampires by the Vampire Council. The kidnapping is tied to rogues and a plot to over-throw the vampire leadership in the city.(Booklist) In the second Jane Yellowrock caper, New Orleans' vampire council has hired the Cherokee-descended shapeshifter to hunt and kill a rogue who is unleashing young, insane vampires on humans, which is against the vampire code. But loyalties run deeper than law among the undead, and one local vampire VIP has a grudge against Jane for destroying his son. Jane gets into a complicated stew involving human and vampire rivalries, the ancient vampire-witch conflict, the New Orleans police, and her need to balance her beast and human natures. What with puzzles, chases (including a climactic one to rescue children), lots of blood, and some explicit sex, count on this to please thriller and dark romance fans alike.

You know that great feeling when you’ve discovered a wonderful new series and to your delight, the author has already written like 10 books in it you have yet to read? Score! This is just superb. There’s a hurricane in New Orleans. Jane has been hired to take out a rogue vampire menace in the area. There’s something creepy going on with the local witches, and Leo, Master of the Dead, wants to kill her fr the events of Book One.

Jane’s love life heats up some in this one, although I confess I’m still holding out for her and Leo as my ship. Bruiser and Rick feel so similar to me as characters at the moment. The world-building and plotting in this series are AWESOME. Like being in New Orleans and with richly complex plots. And of course, Jane makes a great UF heroine. Yay for book three!

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader. ( )

A fast-paced, full-of-action combination mystery thriller and supernatural exploration of the New Orleans vampires and witches and their underbelly. And boy do I wish the cover artists would paint their heroines more like the book and less like . . . their fantasies. But I digress.

Anyway, Jane Yellowrock is still in New Orleans and invited to a party of all of the clans of vamps. There is a great deal of detail and history discussed during the party, and then the inevitable action happens to start this novel off quickly.

Also part of this book, in kind of a character-building way, is her best friend Molly, Molly's two kids, and a bayou ceremony with a pair of Eastern Cherokee women shamans. This latter creates a depth of understanding and calm for Jane during the turbulent events as Molly's children are kidnapped by rogue vampire/witch siblings. In this world, the "dovoveo" is a decade long event. And witches have a gene that makes them witches. Also, an interesting subplot has Jane learning about the Blood Cross, and its use, with an ancient vampire.

All in all, an eventful book in the urban fantasy genre, where police files contain case histories of vampires and witches, and a former Marine who enlists his neighbors in public housing and helps in the action.

My quibbles with this book are slight: I would like to see less of the "Jane Yellowrock stays awake for 3 days and nights straight and manages to function", which seems to be a fault of publishing houses and police procedurals. I do like how the has both Rick and Bruiser as her love interests, and still has not bedded either one. ( )

Jane Yellowrock saves the day again in the 2nd installment of the series.

Still just as fun and thrilling, plenty of action and humour... but was the love triangle necessary? It was a little messy in an otherwise very good book.

Other than that (and a few questionable but passing opinions I may not have agreed with) still a very good book. ( )
