School Picture Book ‘Roar!’ is a new book from favorite author Robert Munsch. (2009) It has won no awards that I was able to find, although there may be some mentioned between the rave reviews given by newspapers and mothers across North America. In ‘Roar!’ we are introduced to Isaac and Elena who decide to be lions after they read a book about lions. Their mother plays along and feeds them lion food for breakfast, and when they get to school Isaac and Elena almost end up ruining the class field trip, before they end up chasing the teacher away. When I flipped through ‘Roar!’ I knew that it would an excellent book to read out loud at story time (as most Munsch books are). I was, however, disappointed while reading it to myself. The story has lots of exciting sounds that encourage children to join in, but lacks a cohesive storyline. The ending of the story comes abruptly and does not wrap up Isaac and Elena’s lion-type adventures. I was disillusioned after reading this book; has Munsch given up writing fantastically funny stories with interesting plots to pump out mediocre stories that sell because of his name? The pictures are as always hilarious and well done, but in this case they far outshine the story itself. I certainly don't understand why so many people are applauding this new book, unless they haven't read it for themselves. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
