I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing the 450 photographs in this outstanding book. Some I have seen before but others were new. It must have been very difficult to cull from the eleven million images in the National Geographic's Image Collection. The fact that the Collection is so large speaks well of the dedication of the Geographic’s group to preserve these treasures.
I especially liked how the book’s categories was divided into four sections; The Early Photographs, Color & Optimism, Documentary Realism, and The Digital Range. You could follow the progression of the art form very easily.
One of the reasons, I have always had an interest in photography can be traced to my childhood memories of reading The National Geographic magazine.
While it is interesting that the book was printed in Italy; the questions arises “Why can we not print books like this in USA?
This book should be purchased for all our libraries in the country. (
