this book is teaching kids how much is in a certain measure for math. I would use this is a fourth grade class because that is when you start to learn all about measuring. It is also a good book to go away from your traditional textbook and learn about it in a fun way. Also it uses daily examples that kids see like the block that they live on.

This book teaches about measurement, incorporating the history of how things were measured in ancient Egypt and Rome and how these had an influence on current measurement systems. The book suggests hands-on activities for the reader to engage in involving measuring distances with one's own body. This could be highly engaging for students. Elements of the engineering design process are also hinted at when the book talks about the way that things used to be measured, points out issues with that system, and then how current systems address these issues. "How Tall, How Short, How Far Away?" by David Adler is an informative book about measuring things in everyday life. The book starts by telling the reader about the ancient Egyptians method of measuring using body parts to determine length. The book then goes on describing different units and how they got their name and measure. The book is very kid-friendly with its cartoon illustrations and fun interactive language. This book would be great for a second or third grade measuring assignment. Student could use methods suggested in the book by measuring with their body parts to understand the concept of measurement. This book is a must read for starting a math lesson on measurements! It uses real life examples that children can find around their house to explain math concepts such as cubits, centimeters, and other forms of measurements. It also explains what measurement system different types of people use around the world. It is extremely informative in such a cute way. Also, it is an interesting non fiction book for all ages. It is an informative poetry text.
