This vibrant, colorful book is sure to appeal to teens no matter what their interest in fashion is. From the eye-catching cover to the subject matter, teens will be attracted to this book whether they are considering a career in the fashion industry or not. Even this reviewer reconsidered her career choice while reading this book. The handbook covers all facets of the fashion industry including designers, editors, stylists, models, makeup artists, and photographers each with its own chapter. Each area of interest also has a toolkit for aspiring professional in fashion. For example, the “essential items of the pros” for an editor include a recorder for interviews, passport, a brightly colored suitcase for easy spotting at baggage claim, and face powder for a polished look all day. Many of the people highlighted are tops in the field, well known, and work for Vogue and some are up-and-comers. Sprinkled throughout the book are bold-faced, yellow-highlighted helpful tips for teens to consider in planning their careers. The appendix includes a list and description of top design schools, a glossary of words in the fashion biz, a “talking the talk” guide, and an index. ( ) The Teen Vogue Handbook is an occupational guide for teens interested in careers in fashion, including aspiring designers, photographers, stylists, models, and magazine editors. Interviews with famous names like Marc Jacobs, Pat McGrath, and Anna Wintour are accompanied by stunning photos, including many from Vogue and Teen Vogue, and visually arresting graphics. The book offers insider perspectives on how teens can get the jobs of their dreams in the fashion industry, including recommendations for media, products, and educational paths. Since the book is divided into sections for each career field, and then subdivided by the subjects of the interviews and stories, it’s easy to read in small bits. An index aids in navigability, while a glossary helps with unfamiliar terminology and a section on design schools helps students identify colleges to further their goals. Two caveats: because the book’s discussions of fashion are so au courant, they will probably become dated fairly quickly, and much like its namesake magazine, this book may be unrelatable for less affluent patrons. Overall, though, a good non-fiction addition to your YA collection; recommended for ages 12+. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
