This was a nice Thanksgiving that reminds you that how much there is to be grateful for in life. The pictures are amazing and even though this is one of the Living Lights series (meaning focusing on Christian aspects), it isn't in your face or preachy.

This book demonstrates how the Berenstain Bears celebrate Thanksgiving. It makes the meaning behind Thanksgiving easier for children to understand because it is explained by the young cubs in the book. This would be great for explaining Thanksgiving to children, because the text is fun and the pictures are entertaining and enhance the story.

NCLA Review -In 1962 Stan and Jan Berenstain began writing and illustrating the Berenstain Bears series establishing a lasting legacy of a gentle bear family facing everyday problems. Stan died in 2005 and his wife and son Mike have gone on to introduce several new titles that have Biblical and ethical messages.
In The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks, Papa Bear receives a turkey as payment for a job, but Sister Bear gets attached to it and can’t “bear” to see it used for the holiday feast. The story also teaches about how God provided for the pilgrims and his many blessings to families today. Rating: 4 —NSK Zondervan 2009, paper, $3.99 ea. 9780310712510 ( )

The giving thanks book is great for around Thanksgiving time. I know some religions do not believe in different hollidays, but the teacher could just read certain parts from the book. The book teaches the children to love their family and friends. Also, the book teaches children to be thankful for everything in their life, and to never take any certain thing for granted. Which with kids, taking things for granted is huge.

The Berenstain cubs act out the first Thanksgiving complete with costumes, props, and a full Thanksgiving feast. But will Sister Bear’s pet turkey play the part of dinner? The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks teaches how God provided for the pilgrims and reminds children of God’s many blessings. (amazon).

I just assumed that a book this bad (it manages to include every single bit of American Thanksgiving misinformation and stereotyping out there; to add insult to injury, the turkey in the book is named Squanto)...
