3.5 // This is always a hit with my three year old who loves trucks, and the rhymes are cute too! They have the classic Scieszka spin, and some end quite abruptly. Although, it feels like the Wheels on the Bus rhyme goes on forever.... ( )

I never knew I read a book by Jon Scieszka until I saw this one listed under his name. his is an adaptation of different nursery rhymes but with types of trucks. Once when I was substituting in the two year old room at the daycare I fill in at we read this book all day. The kids ABSOLUTELY love reading it and singing the songs and making the truck sounds and admiring the pictures. The would fight over the book and ask me to read it again and again. It is a very fun book and I've noticed that a lot of little ones are fascinated with trucks whether or not they are boys or girls. My daughter also loves trucks. It's fun too because everyone knows all the nursery rhymes so its easy to switch up the words and keep the tune. ( )

Meh. I'm just not into these retellings. None of them struck me as particularly clever. And the illustrations irk me: Why are female trucks portrayed with big eyelashes? Whatever. ( )

This book is a collection of poems based on the world of Trucktown and its Truck characters. The book consists of characters based on illustrated vehicles. Many of these rhymes are inspired by existing nursery rhymes such as "Peter Peter Payload Eater" and "Pop goes the diesel".

I would use this book with grades K through 2nd. This book could be used to teach children about poetry, rhyming, and different types of vehicles and what jobs they do. ( )

The book truckery rhymes was a fun book to get students engaged in poetry by remaking old nursery rhymes. I liked the book for young children. It used rhythm and rhyme to engage the reader in to the story. It followed familiar rhythms that the reader would already know. The book also used engaging pictures to show the specific story for each remake of a nursery rhyme. The pictures helped the young readers visualize the new nursery rhyme and poem they were reading. The pictures help develop the main idea of each nursery rhyme as well. The big picture of this book is to introduce short poems to get students engaged in reading. Individual poems may have a specific them, but it is mostly for enjoyment only.
