This is a beautifully illustrated book in the style of the House That Jack Built. It describes the various animals and insects that live in or near the pond and how one fest on another and something else feasts on it and so on. It is a good explanation of the circle of life and would go really well in a science lesson on life cycles or pond dwelling animals. The book also contains facts about each of the animals listed in the book. ( ) This book is geared for younger children with having lots of beautiful illustrations and easy, short words. The book is not too lengthy and discusses the “chain” that forms around a pond. The books talks about how the pond has algae that the nymph eats, with is eaten by the frog, and so on. This book does a great job in sharing how different things survive off of different items or animals. At the end of the book it goes into more detail on some of the key terms of the book such as, algae, bull frog, etc. Overall, the book was very educational and one that I would use in my classroom. A cute poem in the repeating/building style of "There Was an Old Lady...", this offers a peek at a food web/chain, much like the ones available for viewing locally here in the NW. I would use this as a writing prompt so that students could write their own repeating poem, or choose a link of the food chain to research. It could link subject areas well. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
