Seaman, Lewis’ dog, tells of his experiences on the Lewis and Clark expedition. He is a constant and loyal companion not only to Lewis, but the other men on the journey as well. Each of Seaman’s stories are true events, proven by excerpts from Lewis’ journal. A great book for kids who love dogs and animals. Book Lines, March 2007, page 50: "This exceptional fictionalized account of Seaman, the Newfoundland dog that accompanied Lewis and Clark on their westward journey, combines actual jounal entries from the expedition with narrative passages from the dog that served as the exploreres' hunter, retriever, guard, and peacemaker..." aucune critique | ajouter une critique

But I have been wanting to learn more about the Lewis & Clark expedition since my dad has been doing long-distance hiking during his retirement. And I know he read Stephen Ambrose & other L&C chronicles while he was working. The idea of spending that much time just pushing on & on, away from family & comforts, just boggles me.
So when I happened upon this at the library, I grabbed it. And am so glad I did. I devoured it. I want more! It's an easy read, but not just for children. It's exciting, but it's not just 'plot'-driven as it also gives us insights into the 'characters.' Each episode is backed by an excerpt from the journals. The author's note is interesting & informative. And the paintings are gorgeous - I want them on my walls!
Bottom line, I learned stuff, and had a great time while doing so. And I think *everyone* would. Everyone from little kids to my mom, to my dad, even scholars, would enjoy this book. ( )
