Pretty cute story, which seems like it would be a fun read-aloud with young readers, along with cute illustrations. ( )

As the main character, a young girl, poles her skiff through the swamp, she is joined by several animals inviting themselves onto her boat through a rhyming counting text. Gator makes boat-member number ten-- but when the animals all say that there's no room for him on board, HE has room for THEM-- in his tummy! The young girl continues on her way through the swamp, alone in her boat again. Energetic text and illustrations, if a bit unsettling. Perhaps not for the reader who likes ALL the characters to live happily ever after. ( )

What started out as a normal day in the swamp, for a little girl, turns out to be a little more then what she expected. All the swamp animals want to ride along with her, and she agrees to most. Till suddenly an alligator comes along, and scares them all away. Finally she is by her self poling along in the swamp happy as can be. This story was very cute. I also loved the swamp aspect of it. ( )

What a fun, engaging book! This book would be a great tool to teach counting, and I think children living here in south Louisiana would be really excited to see a story set in a swamp. ( )
